English Rental Market Data

The Communities and Local Government Department has just released data showing that in England, the number of people renting accommodation has increased by 55% in the past six years.

The figures show the number of private renters increased from (2003-04) 2.15 million to (2009-10) 3.35 million.  This is good news for landlords as, if this trend continues, it will sustain a healthy rental market in the coming years.

Meanwhile the total number of owner-occupiers fell from 14.54 million to 14.52 million, a drop of 0.18%.

Many commentators have placed this on the inability of many to secure a loan from the banks and the high rate of LTV following the bank crash.
