April 2009: Further House Price Falls - The Land Registry

The land registry who record change and title for property in England and Wales land registry has published information showing that again house prices  fell further in the month of April.  The fall in the month was 0.3% which is below the annual rate of change of -16.2%.  The figure is the same as the previous month indicating a slowing of the rate of change.

The average property is now worth just short of £153,000 which is down by almost £30,000 over the year.  More telling are the number of properties changing hands.  That number is less than half of the number seen a year ago and demonstrates just how far the market has stagnated in the credit crunch crisis.

However, prices in the capital, often seen as an indicator of future changes across the UK, rose slightly in the month.
